Product Overview
The Cummins ISL is based on the 8.3L ISC platform but features increased displacement, bringing it to 8.9L. Cummins developed the ISL to replace the L10, delivering improved efficiency, better packageability, and enhanced durability.
While the ISL shares the same cast-iron block and 24-valve cylinder head design as the ISC, it achieves greater displacement through a longer stroke—resulting in increased cubic inches and overall performance.
What this means for the customer:
More displacement translates to increased torque and pulling power, making the ISL better suited for demanding applications. Combined with its proven platform and improved efficiency, this results in strong performance, dependable reliability, and longer service life in real-world operating conditions.
Best Uses:
The ISL is used in vocational trucks, refuse trucks, concrete trucks, dump trucks, buses, motorhomes, and firetrucks. Common applications are the following:
- Freightliner 108SD
- Peterbilt 348
- International SA525
- Peterbilt 320
- Kenworth T4
- Western Star 4700
- Autocar Xpeditor
- Freightliner M2
